Playa Tahueca is a breathtaking two km stretch of fine white sand that lines the calm Pacific waters. This stunning beach is the home of Oasis Pacifico. The beach has long occupied a special place in the imagination of locals and travelers alike. According to legend, Andrews Drake (the pirate brother of Francis Drake) was once being pursued by two Spanish sailing vessels that he had plundered the week before. He was looking for a safe place in which to hide his booty, and went ashore at what is now Playa Tahueca to bury his treasure until he could return to claim it at a later date. With the first blow of the shovel, the earth gave way and a cave had opened up beneath. The captain exclaimed (in his bad Spanish) “ta hueca y ta seca,” which translates to “it’s hollow and dry,” and it’s been known as Tahueca ever since.

While we don’t know if he ever returned, we feel that Playa Tahueca is most certainly a treasure. See for yourself.
